The film follows the German anthropologist Jürgen Wasim Frembgen, an international authority on Sufism in Pakistan, on his pilgrimage from Lahore to Sehwan Sharif to the holy shrine of the popular Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Every year the anniversary of his death is celebrated like a wedding. Shiites and Sunnis, Hindus and Christians, women and transvestites, rich and poor are coming together for five days of the “Mela” and bring the whole town to a state of trance.
