Sifinja – The Iron Brideis a film about creativity and technology in a Sudanese trucking community. The English Bedford-Lorry was introduced to Sudan in the 1960s. Since then local craftsmen have modified the truck into an ideal vehicle, adequate for travelling off-road and for performing up to customers’ expectations. In different places in Sudan the carpenters and blacksmiths not only create a shiny iron bride, but they change the whole structure of the lorry through a highly unorthodox performance. The film follows closely the daily work, art and history of truck-mudding on the Nile. It is a fascinating way of documenting African creativity in relation to global commodities.
